Freight rates on European, Mediterranean routes raised by up to $5,000

Following Maersk, CMA CGM, Hapag-Lloyd, Wan Hai, and other shipping companies announcing adjustments to rates on several major routes, MSC has finally announced on October 14 that it will increase FAK (Freight All Kinds) rates for the Far East to Western Europe and Mediterranean routes.

On October 14, MSC issued an announcement stating that it would increase FAK (Freight All Kinds) rates for the Far East to the Mediterranean and introduce new Diamond Tier (DT) rates for the Far East to Northern Europe, with a maximum of $5,000.

MSC raises Far East to Europe DT rates

MSC declared that the new Diamond Tier (DT) rates, effective from November 1, 2024 (but no later than November 14, 2024), will apply to cargo shipments exported from Asia to Europe. The new rates cover routes from all Asian ports (including Japan, Korea, and Southeast Asia) to Northern Europe, unless otherwise specified. The rate is set at $3,000 for a 20-foot container and $5,000 for a 40-foot container, including high-cube containers.

All rates are quoted in USD and based on standard port-to-port rates. The export port will follow the usual TAO/TAD rules.

MSC raises Far East to Mediterranean FAK rates

On the same day MSC also announced new FAK rates for the Asia-Mediterranean routes. These new rates, effective from November 1, 2024 (but no later than November 14, 2024), apply to routes from all Asian ports (including Japan, Korea, and Southeast Asia) to the Mediterranean, unless otherwise specified.

Rates to the Western Mediterranean, Adriatic, and Eastern Mediterranean are set at $3,150 for a 20-foot container and $4,500 for a 40-foot high-cube container. Rates to the Black Sea are $3,200 for a 20-foot container and $4,600 for a 40-foot high-cube container.

All rates are quoted in USD and based on standard port-to-port rates. The export port will follow the usual TAO/TAD rules.
